RV-8 : Installez des strakes !

Un écoulement turbulent, généré aux fortes incidences, à l'emplanture de l'aile, dans la zone de jonction des jambes de train et du bord d'attaque, provoque un léger buffeting et une perte d'efficacité de la profondeur au moment du décrochage. Ceci peut être sensible lors d'un arrondi un peu haut (atterrissage trois points) que l'on veut rattraper en augmentant un peu l'incidence au dernier moment.
Cette perte d'efficacité est complètement supprimée par l'adjonction de "strakes", dispositif mis au point par des pilotes américains, que j'ai expérimenté, puis fixé définitivement sur mon avion. Le résultat est excellent et je recommande ce dispositif. La pose est très simple, y compris sur un avion déjà construit.

The strakes clean up the disrupted air coming off the wing/fuselage/gear leg intersection as it goes back the horizontal stabilizer. This is unique to the RV-8 only. Higher wing loading is allowed before the onset of the noted ‘tail shake.’
